- Choose the position. Consider where you stand, sit and need daylight. Balance the view indoors with the window's roof position.
- Check the opening. The available space between roof timbers influences the installation. Any proposed alteration to the structure needs resolving before selecting the final size.
- Confirm the specification. Roof pitch, covering profile and window model must work together. They determine the installation components needed.
- Plan the lining. Internal reveals affect the finished opening and the decoration required. Include the edges around the window when agreeing the installation scope.
- Try the operation. Check the opening and closing action from indoors. Understand the controls before furniture returns beneath the window.
Ways to improve a roof opening
- New opening. A new window changes where daylight enters the room. Choose its location with the roof structure and existing internal layout in view.
- Replacement unit. Identify the existing model and opening first. Newer windows do not automatically use identical installation components.
- Flashing renewal. Renewing the surrounding weathering detail retains a serviceable window. The frame itself still needs checking before committing to that approach.
- Tile surround repair. Broken pieces beside the frame can be addressed separately from the glazing. Their fit must leave the window's drainage channels unobstructed.

Replacing a window within a suitable existing opening involves fewer stages than creating a new opening through a finished room.
