Can a roof clean solve a leak by itself?

Prepare for a controlled roof clean
- Assess the surface. Check the covering before choosing the approach. Fragile edges need different handling from sound tiles.
- Plan debris collection. The route down from the roof matters when moss is removed. Identify planting, lower roofs and drainage points beneath the work.
- Define the sections. Agree the slopes and details included. Growth on a shaded rear pitch can differ from the front.
- Review exposed defects. Removing growth makes the tile surface easier to inspect. Distinguish cosmetic marks from physical defects that warrant separate repair.
- Finish at the outlets. Debris management continues beyond the slope itself. The cleaning scope needs to account for material displaced towards the roof drainage.
Choose the extent of the clean
- Selected slope. Concentrate on an affected pitch when other sections remain clear. The access arrangement still needs to protect neighbouring roof surfaces.
- Whole covering. A whole-roof clean addresses uneven growth across multiple slopes. Different materials on extensions need individual assessment within the scope.
- Chimney growth. Growth on masonry needs attention to the joints underneath. Cleaning exposes the surface but cannot replace missing mortar.
- Drainage clearance. A clearance-focused visit addresses accumulated debris in rainwater routes. It is useful where loose roof growth repeatedly reaches an outlet.
How long moss removal takes
Heavy mats of moss require more handling than scattered growth, particularly on a roof with fragile tiles. Access preparation and collection of fallen debris form part of the programme. Several slopes, awkward valleys and dense planting beneath the eaves all add time to a careful clean.
