On most older roofs the ridge tiles and the gable verges are held on with mortar. Over the years it cracks, washes out and falls into the garden, and then the ridge tiles loosen and rain gets in at the top of the roof and along the edges.
A dry ridge and dry verge system fixes the ridge and verge tiles mechanically, with clips, unions and ventilated rolls instead of mortar. It keeps the roof weathertight, lets the roof space breathe and needs no repointing.

- Strip out. Old mortar, loose ridge tiles and broken fittings come off and the area is prepared.
- Ridge roll and batten. A breathable ridge roll goes on over a fixed ridge batten, letting the roof breathe while keeping the rain out.
- Ridge tiles fixed. Ridge tiles are mechanically fixed with brackets and screws that will not loosen over time.
- Verge units clipped on. Dry verge caps are clipped along the gable ends for a neat, weatherproof edge.
- Lined up and secured. Every component is aligned and fixed so the ridge and verge run straight and true.
- Final inspection. We check every fixing and seal before the scaffold or ladders come down.

What is dry verge?
Dry verge replaces the mortar along a gable edge with interlocking units that are fixed mechanically.
Is dry ridge better than mortar?
It does not wash out or crack, it lets the roof space ventilate and it needs no repointing.
Can you fit dry ridge without a new roof?
Yes. Dry ridge and dry verge can be fitted as a repair on their own.
Is the quote free?

Will the same verge cap fit every tiled roof?
Tile profile, spacing and edge projection affect compatibility. Measure the existing roof before choosing components.
Does dry ridge replace the need for other roof ventilation?
Ventilation must be considered across the whole roof build-up. A ridge component alone does not establish that every required airflow route exists.

Check that the system fits your roof
- Identify the profile. The tile shape and ridge profile determine compatible components. A system described as universal still has defined limits.
- Measure the layout. Tile spacing and the projection at the gable influence the installation. Existing edges need checking before a verge system is selected.
- Assess fixing support. Mechanical components need secure timber beneath them. An attractive outer cap cannot compensate for deteriorated batten ends.
- Resolve the ends. Suitable termination pieces are needed at the eaves and verge tops. These complete the system.
- Review the alignment. Review the run from several viewpoints. Alignment and seating help reveal inconsistent spacing or incomplete junctions.
Match the scope to the roof edge
- Ridge conversion. A ridge-only scheme suits a sound covering with a defective apex detail. The surrounding tiles still need adequate support.
- Individual verge units. Separate units follow the tile courses up a gable. Compatibility depends on the tile profile and the existing course spacing.
- Combined ridge and verge. Address both edges together where deterioration reaches the gable peak. Their meeting point needs a coordinated detail.
- Retained ridge tiles. Sound ridge pieces can be assessed for reuse with a compatible system. Cracked pieces and unsuitable profiles need a different choice.
How long dry ridge and verge takes
A simple ridge run has fewer details than several gables meeting hips and lower roofs. Preparing sound fixing points takes time before the visible units go on. Weather, access and the amount of old bedding to remove determine how the installation is sequenced across your roof.
